Impressions only, no clicks: how to read Google's first official AI visibility data

Google Search Console's New AI Performance Report: What It Shows (and What It Hides)

Google is rolling out a new report in Search Console. It shows how often your pages appear in AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google calls it the Generative AI performance report, and it is the first official window into your AI search visibility.

The rollout started June 3, 2026, with a small group of UK sites, after pressure from the UK’s competition regulator. Google has been expanding access region by region since then. A global rollout is planned, with no announced date. If you do not see the report yet, your property is simply not in the rollout. There is no setting to enable and no waitlist.

What the report shows.

Until now, AI impressions were folded into the main Search performance report. You could not separate AI visibility from classic blue-link visibility. The new report breaks them out. Per Google’s documentation, you can see impressions by page, by country, by device, and over time. So you can tell which pages Google’s AI features quote, and whether that visibility is growing.

What it leaves out.

There are no clicks in this report. No CTR, no average position, and no query data either. You can see that an AI feature showed your page. You cannot see whether anyone clicked through to your site, or what the searcher asked to trigger it.

That gap is the story of AI search compressed into one product decision. Seer Interactive measured what happens to listings when an AI Overview appears above them: organic CTR drops by roughly 61%. In other words, sites appear more and get visited less. Google’s new report measures the half that flatters AI search, and stays quiet on the half that costs you traffic.

How to read an impressions-only report.

Treat it as a trend line, not a scoreboard. Track which pages appear in AI features consistently. Check whether AI impressions move after you publish or update content. Then set the report next to your real click data from the regular Performance report and your analytics. The distance between the two is your zero-click exposure, measured on your own site instead of in someone else’s study.

The metric that still pays.

None of this changes what moves rankings. Google’s systems still learn from user behavior, and each remaining click in AI-era search carries more signal weight, because there are fewer of them. That is the half of the equation we work on at SerpClix: real human clickers performing real searches and sending real engagement signals. Google’s new report will tell you where AI quotes you. Your click data tells you whether that visibility is worth anything.

SerpClix uses an army of over 400,000 real human clickers to boost your organic CTR. Get started with a free trial or log in to your dashboard to set up your next click order.

Please note: there are no guarantees in search engine optimization, ever. There are innumerable factors that can affect search engine rankings. All SEO efforts can involve an element of risk. SerpClix employs real human clickers, so we think our service is far less risky than trying to use automated or robotic click methods. But, like all SEO strategies, there is an element of risk because Google’s algorithm is unknown and subject to change at any time. For more information please see our FAQs.
